Hobbit Society members will be celebrating the anniversary of the Ring's destruction with others around the world by reading aloud from Tolkien's works and having a bake sale and t-shirt sale.

Join us for our first colloquium of student papers and presentations on topics from any area of fantasy, science fiction, or popular culture. Six UNM students will read their work in our first annual colloquium.

Hobbit Society Meeting
Discussion will focus on themes and ideas in "On Fairy-stories," an essay by J.R.R. Tolkien athat may be found in The Tolkien Reader, a text widely available. This discussion will prepare us for Dr. Flieger's lecture later the same week. Make sure to read it or review it before this meeting!

Public lecture by Dr. Verlyn Flieger, University of Maryland
Dr. Flieger is a widely known scholar teacher of comparative mythology and Tolkien Studies.
